Eric John Emery

Eric John Emery was born between April and June 1917 to John Lawrence and Ethel Emery. John was born in Stoke and Ethel in Wolstanton and it appears that Eric was their only son. The family lived at 27 Bennett Place, Bradwell. 1

Eric went to school at Ellison Street and attended the Evening Institute there before getting a job at the Testing Office at Shelton Iron and Steel. He joined the RAF in 1935.He had been a Scout as a boy.2

Eric served as Aircraftman 1st Class, 524329, Eric John Emery in 226 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. He died on 7th November 1939 aged 22 years when he developed appendicitis and secondary peritonitis. 4
Another source has him dying from severe burns caused accidentally. 5

He is buried in the Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France and is commemorated in the Book of Remembrance in St. Andrews Church.
